We all know that sleep is very important for us and our health in general. The experts highly recommend that you should sleep at least 8 hours a day. A good night sleep will re-charge your energy levels and you’ll feel refreshed and full of energy.

But, be very careful, because there are 5 things that you shouldn’t do before you go to sleep (especially #3!):

E-Reader/Smartphone
A recent study has revealed that using a smartphone, watching TV or reading a book on your e-reader 1 hour before sleeping, can “hurt” your sleep. Ladies and gentlemen, the experts highly recommend that you should avoid any light-emitting technology at least 1 hour before you go to sleep. Don’t use your e-reader, computer, laptop, smartphone, TV, etc.

Meds
That’s right, some medications can affect your sleep as well. Antidepressants can harm your sleep. Other meds can upset your stomach and make your sleep more difficult. Some supplements can cause sleeping problems as well. This means that you should consult your doctor before taking any medications or supplements.

Coffee
A quick question – did you know that just 1 cup of coffee has around 80-120 mg of caffeine? The answer is yes and this means one thing – you should avoid drinking coffee right before you go to sleep. NOTE: caffeine can last up to 12 hours.

Alcohol
Don’t drink alcohol before you go to sleep! Why? We can answer that question for you – yes, alcohol will “trick” your body and make it easier to fall asleep. But, your body starts to process that alcohol during the REM sleep (REM sleep, where your sleep is most important), and the REM sleep is significantly reduced. You’ll wake up tired and you can’t concentrate.

Smoking
We all know that smoking is bad for us, but people do it anyway. People think that smoking will relax them, but they’re definitely wrong. Smoking can damage your sleep, especially if you smoke before you go to sleep.
