Skin cancer can develop on areas of the skin exposed to sunlight, including the face, scalp, chest, hands and legs. It can also form on areas not exposed to the sun, such as your palms and toes. Treatment for skin cancer includes radiation therapy, chemotherapy, laser therapy and surgery. Some herbal remedies may also be used to help relieve or control symptoms. Consult your doctor before starting any herbal remedies. Do not replace other forms of therapy with herbal remedies.

Herbal Remedies For Skin Cancer

Turmeric
Turmeric is a herb that may play a role in fighting infections and some cancers. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC), studies in animals and test tubes indicate that this herb may help to prevent, control and treat certain types of cancer such as skin, colon and prostate. Studies are inconclusive, and more studies are required to establish any valid benefit.

Green Tea
Green tea, also known as Camellia sinensis, may help protect against cancer. According to UMMC, research has indicated a benefit. People in Japan have shown lower cancer rates, and they consume green tea regularly. It is thought that the polyphenols in tea can help prevent cancer, kill cancer-causing cells and decrease the rate at which cancer develops. Specifically, green tea may play a role in managing skin cancer due to a polyphenol called epigallocatechin, or EGCG. This compound may act as an anti-inflammation agent and help prevent skin cancer growth.

Herbal Combination
Karposi's sarcoma is a type of skin cancer that occurs upon infection by a virus in the herpes strain. Some naturopathic doctors use the herb lemon balm as a paste, in combination with a Hoxsey-like formula, a combination of herbs and potassium iodide, and turmeric to help manage skin cancer symptoms. This herbal combination is applied to the skin. You should consult your physician before applying this herbal remedy to your body.

Other Herbs
Other herbs that have been targeted as having beneficial antioxidant effects for skin cancer include bilberry, ginkgo, milk thistle, hawthorn and ginger. Their antioxidant properties may enable them to fight infection and illness caused by viruses and bacteria. This immune support can help them fight cancer cells and symptoms. These herbs have not been scientifically proven to have benefit, though they have been commonly used in skin cancer management.
